As the clock struck 12 midnight, the steady vibes by King Apocalypse Sound had already set the mood for John Wayne to take the reigns for his early warm set. Mister Wayne opened the Vault and played early lover’s rock classic Give It Up By Benjy Myaz along with Wayne Wonder’s rendition of Heal the World. He shot out a long list of reggae selections Praise Ya Jah by Sizzla, Sanchez Brown Eyes, and Bush Man’s Weak Heart. The speakers blasted in syncopation and alternated as the beat dropped. A small crowd had entered and headed straight towards the bar to partake in spirits before the night’s bashment began. As Natural Vibes took the stage, Rico and his emcee welcomed the intimate crowd with more preliminary music Lalibela Riddim, Jamaica Love by Busy Signal and Buju Banton’s Hills and Valleys.
Just as the musical vibrations had the crowd comfortable, the sound came to an abrupt stop. Several sound men struggled to find the source of the interruption while anxious patrons mumbled to one another, sipped on their glasses and prepared for another round at the bar. The sound was soon restored as an irie vibe filled the room once again.
The winter event, in celebration of Juggla’s Birthday, was commemorating its eighth year of success. The loyal Dons and Divas of the Reggae Scene traveled from all corners of the city for the semi-formal extravaganza. Men and women, young and seasoned, came dressed in their Saturday best for the annual occasion. Familiar faces were all around- The young eastsiders of the new school reggae generation as well as Senior Dons and Divas gathered around the room to dance, chat, and drink. The intimate crowd soon grew to a cozy circle outlining the dance floor by 2:30am. Everyone enjoyed the evening with select appearances by Danger Marcus, Mix Master David, King Apocalypse, and DJ Kash
No one noticed when the music cut off for a second time half way through the night. The best of Soca, Hip-Hop and Dancehall kept everyone swaying as the cameras flashed to record each memorable moment until late into the peek hrs of the am.
